"I grew up in rural upstate New York, in a family which loves animals, but we had no local wildlife larger than groundhogs. I was excited to move to California where mountain lions were rumored to roam. At first, I thought the ultimate discovery would be to find a mountain lion print in the dirt while walking in these gorgeous mountains. However, I tend to take everything to extremes, so hiking turned into tracking, and tracking turned into camera trapping. The goal: to finally see these beautiful creatures who live among us but remain almost mythically elusive. It’s turned into an effort to save the species from local extinction."
